Over the past several weeks—maybe even months—I’ve said, “and the world moves on,” more times than I care to count. I’m not sure whether I mean it as a positive observation, a negative one, or simply a neutral statement of fact. What I do know is that the world’s constant momentum can be challenging, especially when whatever is evolving most quickly seems to affect our work or home life most directly.
In many situations, I’ve found myself repeating this phrase as a reminder—to myself, my staff, and my family—that no matter how much we may have liked the way things were, the world moves on, just as it always has and always will. The best we can hope for is to keep moving forward with it, as much as we are able. That task feels hardest when change is rapid, or when the change itself isn’t one we welcome. On those days, greeting this new world with a positive attitude can feel harder and harder.
For me, I’m feeling this most acutely in my business life, but I’d love to hear your thoughts as well. What’s evolving most rapidly in your world, and what feels hardest to keep up with? Over the past year—between tariffs, pricing shifts, inventory challenges, and decreased consumer demand for our goods—I’ve often felt left behind, or at least worried that we might be. What about you?
